It’s hard to believe that a service as essential as saving lives at sea is a charity but that’s exactly what the RNLI is. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, manned by volunteers, life boats are ready to launch when the call is received. The RNLI has saved 146,700 lives since its foundation in 1824
